Akerman Senterfitt LLP has announced the opening of its New York office located in midtown Manhattan at 335 Madison Avenue.

The firm, which is the largest full service law firm in Florida with over 400 attorneys and consultants intends to provide its Florida clients with expanded services in New York, to assist New York clients in both Florida and Latin America and to serve the New York market.

"New York is a natural market for the firm," said Akerman Senterfitt Chairman and CEO Tom Cardwell. "Our lawyers and our clients have many connections with New York. It is logical for the largest law firm in Florida to have a presence in the nation's financial and business center."

The firm will develop its New York office with lawyers whose practices are consistent with the focus of the firm. These include the corporate, real estate, litigation and Latin American areas.

The office will open with seven lawyers. Marvin Pickholz will join the firm as Shareholder and will spearhead the firm's White Collar and Corporate Advisory Group. Marvin previously served as the Assistant Director of the SEC?s Division of Enforcement in Washington, D.C., and was Chief of the Enforcement Branch in New York.

He has been acknowledged by The National Law Journal as being one of the top ten lawyers "for practice before the SEC." He was a partner with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in both its New York and Washington, D.C. offices before co-founding the Pickholz Law Firm.

As a former SEC litigator, Marvin Pickholz has a lengthy history in handling high profile engagements, including the Ivan Boesky/Michael Milken "Wall Street" cases, the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association/Charles Keating matter, the municipal bond "Pay-to-Play" investigations, the Princeton Newport proceedings, the first SEC investigation involving Section 10A (the accountant "whistleblower" statute), and representing a key witness in the Martha Stewart criminal trial.

Most recently, he has successfully defended senior officers of Federated Investors, one of the largest mutual fund complexes, in connection with the New York State Attorney General and SEC investigations; Royal Ahold and US Food Service executives in connection with governmental investigations; a NYSE member firm in a multi-million dollar arbitration; and other notable clients in private and government litigation.

Akerman Senterfitt is Florida's largest full-service law firm with more than 400 attorneys and consultants servicing the needs of local, regional, national and international clients.

The firm represents private and public companies, governmental entities, educational institutions and high net-worth individuals in a wide range of practice areas.

Founded in 1920, the firm has ten offices, in Miami and throughout Florida, as well as in New York and Washington, D.C.
