The firm, which is the largest full service law firm in Florida with over 400 attorneys and consultants intends to provide its Florida clients with expanded services in New York, to assist New York clients in both Florida and Latin America and to serve the New York market. "New York is a natural market for the firm," said Akerman Senterfitt Chairman and CEO Tom Cardwell. "Our lawyers and our clients have many connections with New York. It is logical for the largest law firm in Florida to have a presence in the nation's financial and business center." The firm will develop its New York office with lawyers whose practices are consistent with the focus of the firm. These include the corporate, real estate, litigation and Latin American areas. The office will open with seven lawyers. Lansing Palmer, as Shareholder, will focus on complex litigation involving fiduciaries in trusts, estates and other matters. Lansing has appeared in state and federal courts in multiple jurisdictions, including a 5-4 win in the United States Supreme Court which established the present test for "excusable neglect" in late filings in bankruptcy. Prior to joining Akerman Senterfitt, Lansing was in private practice, and was a partner with Appleton, Rice & Perrin. He started his legal career at Shearman & Sterling.
