Akerman Senterfitt, the largest full-service law firm in Florida, has created a new high-profile White Collar and Corporate Advisory Group to enhance the firm's already top-ranked Corporate Compliance practice.

The five new attorneys in the Group will counsel domestic and foreign clients in a broad range of regulatory and white collar matters, conduct internal corporate investigations, and will work closely with the government affairs groups based in Washington, D.C. in advising clients confronted with congressional investigations.

Richard Smith and Alex Ren? are U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) veterans, Marvin and Jason Pickholz bring extensive SEC and securities litigation experience, and Jayne Blumberg is a former senior counsel of the SEC?s Enforcement Division.

Adding further depth to the firm?s Corporate practice ranked "top of the market" (Chambers 2005), the new White Collar and Corporate Advisory Group will serve clients in all aspects of white collar crime, including governmental investigations involving grand juries, criminal litigation and related civil and administrative proceedings, congressional inquiries, SEC, IRS, NYSE, and NASD enforcement proceedings, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and qui tam actions.

?We have added the country's top talent to our already existing strong corporate compliance team and are continuing to position ourselves to better serve our clients,? said Akerman Senterfitt CEO and Chairman Tom Cardwell.

"With the addition of these experienced professionals, we will be able to provide a breadth of end-to-end services that are essential given the current corporate climate nationwide."

Richard Smith joins the firm directly from the DOJ where he was most recently Acting Head of the Criminal Division of the DOJ's Fraud Section. He brings the experience of co-managing the trial of Richard M. Scrushy, former CEO of HealthSouth, which was the first case brought under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

The new hires add to the already substantial white collar and SEC criminal investigatory capabilities of the firm, which includes eight former SEC administrators and enforcement attorneys, four white collar crime attorneys, eight corporate compliance attorneys and 17 securities litigation attorneys.

Akerman Senterfitt Chief Operating Shareholder Robert Zinn noted: ?The success of Akerman Senterfitt?s continued growth has been due in large part to our entrepreneurial spirit. It has afforded us the ability to adapt to the changing legal environment in order to continuously accommodate the needs of our clients.?

Akerman Senterfitt is Florida's largest full-service law firm with more than 400 attorneys and consultants servicing the needs of local, regional, national and international clients.

The firm represents private and public companies, governmental entities, educational institutions and high net-worth individuals in a wide range of practice areas.

Founded in 1920, the firm now has offices in Florida's major business centers: Miami, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and West Palm Beach, as well as in Washington, D.C. and New York.
