As a consultant in litigation, Dr. Henning works with attorneys in some of the highest-profile and most technically challenging class action securities litigation cases. As a consultant to companies, Dr. Henning assists management and boards of directors with the reporting of specific events or proposed transactions, with regulatory reporting issues including the initial registration of securities, and with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. ?We assess financial reporting issues in litigations, forensic investigations, and corporate settings,? said Dr. Henning. ?The results of our analyses are communicated in understandable, non-technical language to facilitate the resolution of issues in a timely fashion.? As an expert witness, Dr. Henning provides independent, objective testimony based on information found in company and auditor-prepared documents. Drawing on his extensive experience, Dr. Henning advises attorneys about the disputed accounting and reporting issues. ?Steve?s background in auditing, industry, academe and at the SEC provides him with the consummate credentials as an accounting expert in litigation,? said Robert W. Berliner, Managing Director-in-Charge of the MP&S Securities Litigation and Forensic Accounting Group. In addition to his work with Marks Paneth & Shron, Dr. Henning is a member of the AICPA?s SEC Regulations Committee, which acts as the primary liaison between the accounting profession and the SEC staff on technical matters relating to SEC rules and regulations. He was recently appointed to the NASDAQ Listing Qualifications Panel, comprised of independent experts tasked with making final determination of listing status upon appeal after being de-listed by NASDAQ officials. Dr. Henning is a former Academic Fellow in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the SEC, where he was responsible for the resolution of various registrant matters and participated in the development of numerous proposed rules. Previously, he was an accounting professor at Southern Methodist University and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has taught courses for investment banks and foreign and domestic registrants and his research on financial reporting and disclosure is published in various academic journals and featured in other business periodicals. Dr. Henning holds a BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, an MBA from the University of Miami and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a certified public accountant licensed in both New York and Wisconsin and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Accounting Association and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Dr. Henning will be based out of Marks Paneth & Shron LLP?s Manhattan office.
