Tony Hayes Elected International President of ISACA

Tony Hayes, CGEIT, AFCHSE, CHE, FACS, FCPA, FIIA, appointed Deputy Director-General of the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services in the Queensland Government, Australia, was installed as international president of ISACA—a global association serving 110,000 IT governance, assurance and security professionals in 180 countries—at its World Congress: INSIGHTS 2013 conference in Berlin, Germany.

Founded in 1969, ISACA develops international standards, frameworks and guidance to help enterprises maximize the value of their information and systems. ISACA administers the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) designations. The association also developed and continually updates COBIT, the internationally accepted framework for governance and management of enterprise IT. The latest version, COBIT 5, was released last year.

“Tony’s expertise and leadership have been tremendously valuable to ISACA,” said Greg Grocholski, CISA, immediate past president of ISACA and global business finance director for the Ventures and Business Development unit within The Dow Chemical Company. “Tony is a long-time ISACA member whose experience and strategic viewpoint will be instrumental in helping our constituents maximize the value of their information and technology assets.”

In his role in the Queensland Government, Hayes has significant responsibilities for the provision of various human services across the entire state of Queensland. He has led the implementation of many reforms and change management initiatives in his organization that have been enabled by IT investments and the sound use of IT governance practices. Having held a variety of senior executive positions in the Queensland public sector, Hayes brings extensive IT governance experience to his role as ISACA international president.

Hayes has specialist experience in strategic management and planning, organizational review and business process improvement, information and business strategy development, change management, and project management. He is also an adjunct professor and a member of the Business Information Systems Advisory Committee for the School of Business at the University of Queensland.

Hayes has been a member of ISACA since 2003 and has served on the ISACA Board of Directors and several committees, including the IT Governance Committee and the Strategic Advisory Council. He also was chair of the ISACA Relations Board. Prior to being elected international president, he served as international vice president of ISACA.

“I am privileged and honored to be part of the leadership team and look forward to working with the board, staff and global membership on the many strategic initiatives that are planned over the next year and beyond,” said Hayes. “ISACA is a unique organization and continues to be the global thought leader for IT governance, assurance, risk and security professionals. I am proud to serve as its international president.” 

In addition to Hayes, 10 other IT professionals were named to ISACA leadership positions for the 2013-2014 term.

Elected as international vice presidents were Allan Boardman, CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC, CA (SA), CISSP, information risk manager at Morgan Stanley (United Kingdom); Juan Luis Carselle, CISA, CGEIT, CRISC, assistant director of IT at Walmart de Mexico y Centro America (Mexico); Ramsés Gallego, CISM, CGEIT, CCSK, CISSP, SCPM, Six Sigma Black Belt, security strategist and evangelist at Dell Software (Spain); Theresa Grafenstine, CISA, CGEIT, CRISC, CIA, CGAP, CGMA, CPA,  inspector general of the US House of Representatives (USA); R Vittal Raj, CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CFE, CIA, CISSP, FCA, partner of M/s. Kumar & Raj and director at Pristine Consulting Private Limited (India); Jeff Spivey, CRISC, CPP, president of Security Risk Management Inc. (SRM) and strategy advisor for RiskIQ (USA); and Marc Vael, CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC, CISSP, ITIL, chief audit executive at Smals vzw (Belgium). 

Three directors were appointed to ISACA’s board:  Christos Dimitriadis, Ph.D., CISA, CISM, CRISC, head of information security for INTRALOT Group. (Greece); Krysten McCabe, CISA, senior manager in the Assurance and Advisory Management Program at The Home Depot (USA); and Jo Stewart-Rattray, CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC, FACS CP, director of information security and IT assurance at BRM Holdich (Australia).

With more than 110,000 constituents in 180 countries, ISACA helps business and IT leaders maximize value and manage risk related to information and technology. Founded in 1969, the nonprofit, independent ISACA is an advocate for professionals involved in information security, assurance, risk management and governance. These professionals rely on ISACA as the trusted source for information and technology knowledge, community, standards and certification.

The association, which has 200 chapters worldwide, advances and validates business-critical skills and knowledge through the globally respected Certified Information Systems Auditor(CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) credentials. ISACA also developed and continually updates COBIT, a business framework that helps enterprises in all industries and geographies govern and manage their information and technology.
