Edward Kozel Joins Reconnex Board of Directors

Former Cisco CTO Sees Electronic Risk Management as the ?Next Logical Step? in Network Security

Reconnex

Reconnex, a leader in safeguarding enterprises against information security breaches originating within their organization, has announced that Edward Kozel has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Kozel joined Cisco Systems in 1989 and helped grow the company into a multinational technology company. During his 12 years with Cisco, he served as CTO, Senior Vice President of Business Development, and a member of Cisco?s Board of Directors. Kozel, who was responsible for putting Cisco into the firewall business, will provide strategic guidance for Reconnex in a market he refers to as ?the next logical step in network security.?

?Today, everyone understands the importance of firewalls in the network, but firewalls alone are insufficient,? said Kozel. ?Keeping people out of your network is one aspect of network security; keeping private information within the network is a new problem altogether. It is estimated that as much as 70% of America?s intangible assets are in electronic format. Reconnex is the clear leader in a new breed of information security solutions that focus not on the perimeter, but on managing the risks associated with the need to communicate assets electronically. Reconnex appliances get beyond the firewall, providing non-invasive detection of confidential information leaks that are detrimental to business.?

?Ed?s experience leading companies to growth, as well as his venture capital experience, make him an invaluable addition to Reconnex?s Board of Directors,? said Donald J. Massaro, CEO of Reconnex. ?Ed played a key role in leading Cisco into the firewall business, and has a keen sense of where the network security market is heading. To have Ed?s endorsement of Reconnex?s approach to safeguarding and securing corporations? confidential information speaks volumes for our solutions.?

Mr. Kozel began his career at Boeing and spent six years at SRI International, where he conducted early research into the architecture of the Internet. Most recently, he spent three years with the private venture firm Open Range LLC. Kozel is currently the managing director of Integrated Finance Limited (IFL). Mr. Kozel holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Davis.
