Easier, Better Protection for More Databases

Major new release includes module for rapid implementation of PCI DSS, SOX, SAS 70 database compliance

Sentrigo, an innovator in enterprise database security software, has announced the release of Hedgehog 2.0. The software now supports Microsoft environments in addition to Oracle and offers a new module for speeding up compliance with laws and regulations, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, the payment card industry’s data security standard (PCI DSS) and the service companies’ auditing standard SAS 70.

With these updates, Microsoft SQL Server users can now enjoy the same level of security provided by Sentrigo’s Hedgehog to Oracle database users—defending against insider breaches, external attacks and vulnerability exploits. Sentrigo released Hedgehog Enterprise™ and the free Hedgehog Standard™ in 2007 and quickly gained recognition for providing unprecedented database security.

Hedgehog 2.0 enhancements include:

• Microsoft SQL Server support—Customers using Hedgehog are now able to manage policies and alerts seamlessly across both Oracle and Microsoft installations, using a unified user interface. Sentrigo will release support for SQL Server 2008 when Microsoft makes it generally available.

• New tools that speed up and simplify legal and regulatory compliance—Hedgehog allows rapid deployment of best practices for compliance with the credit card industry’s PCI DSS, Sarbanes-Oxley and SAS 70. Wizards enable database administrators to create security policies based on regulatory requirements and create reports for auditors.

• Hedgehog IDentifier support for .NET application servers—Hedgehog IDentifier is installed on application servers to pass application user ID information through the database connection in n-tier environments where pooled connections are used. It now supports .NET in addition to Java EE application servers.

"When I talk to clients about protecting databases, one of their concerns is that there's never just one type -- that is, they have databases from multiple vendors that need protection," said Trent Henry, vice president and research director at Burton Group. "Microsoft SQL Server is a widely used DBMS platform among enterprises and SMBs alike. Having a robust database activity monitoring and auditing solution that supports it is a welcome addition for companies seeking to strengthen data security and improve compliance."

“With the release of Hedgehog 2.0, we substantially broaden the market for our products,” said Nathan Shuchami, chief executive of Sentrigo. “We’ll continue to expand our support for all widely used relational databases and at the same time, add functionality that makes it easier for customers to protect sensitive data and adhere to standards and best practices. Since the introduction of Hedgehog, many of our customers have been awaiting Hedgehog’s support for Microsoft SQL Server. I am pleased that we were able to meet their needs in such a short timeframe.”
