EDS Names Ethics Czar




Bruce Hawthorne

EDS

EDS has appointed Bruce N. Hawthorne as executive vice president, secretary and general counsel. Hawthorne, 54, will be responsible for directing all aspects of EDS' global legal operations and will also lead the company's Office of Ethics and Business Conduct.

"Bruce joins EDS at a critical juncture of our transformation effort," said Mike Jordan. "His proven leadership track record, background in corporate governance and extensive legal expertise will be invaluable as we continue to aggressively implement our growth strategy."

Hawthorne will report directly to Chairman and CEO Mike Jordan and serve as a member of EDS' Executive Committee. He replaces Gil Friedlander who retired from the company to return to private practice.

Hawthorne recently departed from Sprint where he served as executive vice president and chief staff officer. He had executive leadership responsibility for all of Sprint's staff operations, including strategy, corporate development, communications, human resources, brand management, security and community relations.

Prior to joining Sprint in 2003, Hawthorne served as a senior partner of King & Spalding, LLP, for nearly 30 years, and he served more than a decade as Sprint's lead outside legal counsel. He played a pivotal role in a variety of transactions for Sprint, including its multibillion-dollar domestic alliance to create Sprint PCS. He also chaired and helped build the firm's prestigious telecommunications industry practice.
